Tasting - "Ferrari-Carano Siena"

  • Name: Ferrari-Carano Siena
  • Variety: 74% Sangiovese, 14% Malbec, 8% Syrah, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Region: California
  • Country: United States
  • Year: 2010
  • Price: $24.95
  • Critic Review: Delicious aromas and flavors of fresh-pickled blackberries, raspberry jam, cola, cinnamon and clove. Sweet oak notes of vanilla and butterscotch complement lingering tart cherry, cranberry and strawberry. A wine with nice acidity and refined, elegant texture, SIENA has tannins that are showy and evenly coat the palate.
  • My Review: On the nose, I got a strong smell of raspberries, with a slight hint of cola. On the palate, there was a definite tannic component, but not overwhelmingly so. It came with nice strawberry taste, with a very distinct taste of dirt on the finish. It was a decent wine overall, but I didn't enjoy the finish as much as I would've liked to.
